Freight rates on multiple routes have increased! Price increase notices are coming intensively

Whether the freight peak season in the second half of the year will come is still uncertain. But what is certain is that major shipping companies have issued a wave of notices of peak season surcharges with considerable force!

Recently, many shipping companies have successively announced a new round of freight rate increase plans, and this time they have all chosen the same price increase project - Peak Season Surcharge (PSS).

It is understood that this round of freight rate increases almost covers other major routes except the US route, including Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Oceania, and South Asian routes such as India and Pakistan.

The following is a notice of peak season surcharge price increase issued by large shipping companies, which are the vane of the shipping market, for Europe, the Mediterranean, Africa, Oceania, and South Asian routes such as India and Pakistan:

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Asia-Europe Route:

Large shipping companies have notified that they will impose an increased peak season surcharge on goods from the Far East of Asia, including China, to Northern Europe (E1W - FEA to NEUR). Starting from August 1, the peak season surcharge for 20-foot containers (including dry containers and refrigerated containers) will increase by US$250, and the peak season surcharge for 40-foot and 45-foot containers (including dry containers and refrigerated containers) will increase by US$500. It is worth noting that the "Far East Asian countries" referred to in the Maersk notice specifically include: Brunei, China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, Mongolia, South Korea, Laos, Myanmar, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Asia-Mediterranean routes:

Large shipping companies announced that they will increase the peak season surcharge for goods shipped from Far East Asia to the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions such as Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Greece, Ukraine, etc. The new fee will take effect from July 28, 2025. Among them, for goods shipped to Turkey, Egypt, Israel, Greece, and Ukraine, the peak season surcharge for 20-foot containers (including dry containers and refrigerated containers) is US$50, and for 40-foot and 45-foot containers (including dry containers and refrigerated containers) it is US$100; and for goods shipped to other Mediterranean ports, the peak season surcharge standard is US$250/US$500 (20-foot container/40-foot and 45-foot container).

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) on Asia-Africa routes:

Large shipping companies said that from August 1, a peak season surcharge of US$500/US$1,000 (20-foot container/40 and 45-foot container) will be added to goods shipped from the Far East to Mozambique, Madagascar, Seychelles, Botswana, Comoros Islands, Lesotho, Malawi, Swaziland, Zambia, and Zimbabwe; at the same time, from July 28, a new peak season surcharge will be added to goods shipped from the Far East to South Africa and Mauritius, with the charging standards in the region as high as US$1,000 for 20-foot containers and US$1,600 for 40-foot containers.

Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for Asia-Oceania routes:

For cargo shipped from Asia to Oceania, large shipping companies will impose peak season surcharges from August 4 and August 25 respectively, depending on the different ports of departure and destinations, ranging from US$200/US$400 to US$300/US$600 (20-foot container/40 and 45-foot container).

Asia - Peak Season Surcharge (PSS) for routes in South Asia including India, Pakistan:

Large shipping companies announced that starting from August 1, a peak season surcharge of USD 200 will be added to each container (including 20-foot and 40-foot containers) for cargo shipped from China, Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, South Korea, Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan to southern and northwest India (including Jawaharlal Nehru, India, Pipavav, India, Mundra, India), Sri Lanka, Pakistan, and the Maldives.
